Refractive Index Sensing Characteristics of Metal-Coated Optical Fiber-Long Period Gratings (LPGs)

Abstract

A metal coated LPG based sensor using pure surface plasmon polaritons is studied and found to (i) be 12-20 times more sensitive than the FBG one (ii) have maximum sensitivity at an optimum metal thickness.
